Cubandiva does D.C.
So this weekend my friend Kim, aka Cubandiva, came to visit me in D.C. We were off to a weekend full of activities. The first event was an event sponsored by Professionals in the City. Saturday night, we got all glammed up ;-)

We caught a cab, and made our way over to 16th Street. Thankfully, we managed to make it through the small group of protestors outside. (YIKES!) Once inside, we sampled the buffet and danced the night away at the Cuban Interest Section of the Embassy of Switzerland ....
This a picture of yours truly, trying to hold it together and dance through the open bar with the BEST mojitos. This was drink number (???)....
On Sunday we pulled our Mojito infused behinds out of bed to go to downtown to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Kim wanted to visit the new Celia Cruz exhibit.
I loved it! Wayyy better than I expected.
We saw various pictures of her younger years, and lots of cool memorabilia. (She rocked some flyyyy girl shoes; so ahead of her time!) They also had SEVERAL audio and video clips running. Warning: this means that you will catch yourself swaying your hips and singing in the middle of the museum! LOL
After a few hours in downtown & Georgetown, we dragged ourselves to eat some MORE (?) yummy food and drinks with our fellow Sucia Joanne, shown below in a file foto from May '05, Sucias Retreat, in New Mexico ;)

We stuffed ourselves with more goodies at Cubanos : Ropa Vieja, Lechon , Maduros, Tres Leches, Flan, etc. and happily ended our day ! ;-) *sigh*
Anyway, check out the online exhibit: ¡Azúcar! The Life and Music of Celia Cruz may be be coming to a city near you!
